Genital Warts Symptoms In Men
What are the genital warts symptoms in men?
The genital warts appear a few weeks after a man has been infected with HPV (the human papilloma virus) and are actually flat or raised lesions that appear usually on the tip or the shaft of the penis, on the scrotum or in the anal area. The warts can be really small or form large clusters; in certain cases they aren’t visible with the naked eye and if the patient complains of itching, pain or any other abnormal sensation in the genital area the doctor might apply acetic acid, which turns the warts white in color. In most cases, though, the diagnosis is done by simply examining the penis and the whole genital and anal area; if needed the presence of male genital warts symptoms can be confirmed by biopsy or proctoscopy if anal bleeding is present.
The human papilloma virus has more than 100 strains, most of which are low-risk; the ones that are actually considered high-risk and can lead to the development of serious diseases such as cancer do not cause an outbreak of genital warts. The types that cause genital warts are the HPV 6 and HPV 11 – even though millions of men are infected with either or both of these virus’ strains, they do not develop male genital warts symptoms – this in turn increases the risk of their partners being infected, especially if protection is not used; again, studies show that even the use of male condoms does not prevent the virus from spreading since it can be transmitted by skin-to-skin contact as well. Even though lab test have found small traces of the virus on toiletries and surfaces that have been used and touched by an infected person, non-sexual and non skin-to-skin transmitting of the virus has not been recorded.

If you see some of the male genital warts symptoms described above, we urge you to visit a doctor immediately – if you leave the warts untreated they might go away on their own, but it is more likely that they will actually spread and grow larger or form clusters. Then the treatment does not only become more difficult, but is usually more expensive – some of the treatments such as surgical removal or laser treatment require repeat and follow-up visits to a clinic and can be quite costly.
If you have been diagnosed with genital warts and they are not too many and only external, then at this stage treating them at home with solutions and gels, prescribed from your doctor or some of the herbal remedies sold off the counter, is still possible. Keep in mind that getting rid of the genital warts symptoms in men requires patience and persistence – most treatments take from four weeks to up to a few months in order to work.
The only possible prevention is reducing the number of the casual sexual partners, the use of condoms and adopting healthy life-style in order to keep your immune system strong.
