get rid of genital wartsHow can you get rid of genital warts?

People that have had them in the past or a currently suffering from genital warts know very well just how difficult are they to remove. The genital warts are a symptom of the human papilloma virus infection – an infection, which is almost always sexually transmitted; only certain strains of the virus cause the warts though and some people carry the infection for years and never develop any symptoms.

Usually the warts appear a few weeks or even months after the sexual contact and with time they can grow larger in size or develop clusters. In more severe cases they can cause itching, bleeding, painful intercourse and vaginal discharge when they are internal. As of today there is no cure for genital warts, but they can be successfully treated; there is also no single best way to get rid of genital warts – that totally depends on the individual circumstances and in more severe cases special care and professional medical intervention is needed.

The treatments are broadly categorized into two categories – patient applied and health provider administered; when the cases are mild the treatment at home is the best option – it is cheaper, convenient and works well for most people. The clinic administered treatments are more expensive since they require special skills or equipment, but sometimes they are inevitable, especially when it comes to internal warts.

Keep in mind that treating genital warts is a lengthy process – the majority of the patients see full results in three months time or longer period; the treatments available at the time of this writing are the Podofilox 0.5% gel or solution, Imiquimod 5% cream (both can be applied at home), cryotherapy, Bichloroacetic acid (BCA), Trichloroacetic acid (TCA), surgical removal and laser surgery.

Special mention deserve the natural remedies, which are extremely successful, have no side effects and leave no scars as some of the other treatments. Some of them also work in dual fashion – in some cases the warts reappear at a later stage, but some of these herbal remedies’ ingredients give the patient’s immune system a boost and prevent that from happening.

As with every other disease, self-treatment should be carried out only after consulting with a physician; when the appropriate treatment is recommended, it should be carried out as directed in order to get rid of genital warts once and for all. Even after the warts disappear the patient remains infected with the virus, which means that he or she should take precautions in order not to infect his or her sexual partners or even the people that live in the same household – this means reducing the number of causal sexual contacts and using condoms.

To our knowledge non-sexual transmitting of the virus hasn’t been recorded, but the infected person should use his or her own soap and toiletries just to be on the safe side. After a successful genital warts treatment, adopting a healthier life style with exercise and proper diet should help prevent the reappearing of the warts and getting rid of the virus that caused them in a first place.
